Preview and Live URLs

Default preview domain

When you create a site, you choose a preview domain slug in step 1 of the wizard. Aveiro hosts the public site at: Rules for the slug:

• Lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens
• Must be unique across Aveiro
• Shown in the wizard as you type (https:// … .aveiro.page)

You can change the slug later in the editor under Settings → Site (when the site is saved).

Live vs draft on the public URL

The *.aveiro.page URL is always your site's public address, but what visitors see depends on publish state: The green pulse on a site card in the dashboard means published content is live. A grey dot means the site is still a draft from the public's perspective. Editing in the editor updates drafts immediately. Use Publish in Settings to push changes live. See Key concepts.

Editor preview

Inside the editor, the right-hand preview pane shows your current draft — including unpublished edits. Preview modes in the toolbar:

• Device widths — mobile, tablet, desktop framing
• Preview / Visual / Source — read-only preview vs visual editing vs MDX source

This preview is for you while editing; it is not the same as sharing a public link.

Organization view route

From Sites → menu → View, Aveiro opens the site in a new tab using your organization-scoped view URL (/{organizationId}/{siteId}). This is useful for checking the site in context without leaving the dashboard flow.

Shareable draft preview

When you need someone else to review unpublished work, the editor can use a preview token (?previewToken=… on in-app links). That session shows draft layout and content in the site template — without publishing. Details are covered in Publishing settings vs content and Preview and live URLs. The important idea: token preview = draft, public URL without token = published snapshot.

Custom domains

You can connect your own domain (e.g. www.example.com) in Editor → Settings → Custom domain:

• Enter the domain.
• Add the DNS records Aveiro shows at your registrar.
• Wait for verification — SSL is provisioned automatically.

Once verified, the custom domain is the primary public URL. Visitors who open your-slug.aveiro.page are redirected (301) to your custom domain with the same path. SEO metadata (canonical, Open Graph, structured data) also points at the custom domain. Custom domain setup is step-by-step in the Settings panel; this guide only covers how URLs fit together.

Page URLs and paths

Published pages map from MDX file paths to clean URLs:

• /index.mdx → / (homepage)
• /about.mdx → /about
• /guides/quickstart.mdx → /guides/quickstart

Folders organize files in the editor; URL segments follow the folder and file names you choose when creating pages.

Common questions

Why does my slug URL show old content?

• You may be viewing the published snapshot while newer edits are still draft. Publish from Settings.

Why is a page missing on my live site?

• Pages you have not published do not appear on the public URL. Only published snapshots are served to visitors.

Can I change my slug after launch?

• Yes in Settings, if the new slug is available. Update any links you shared externally.

Does analytics track preview traffic?

• Analytics focuses on live public traffic when tracking is enabled in site settings.

Crawlers and first paint

When your site is fully live, Aveiro server-renders each published page's MDX body and navigation into the HTML served at your public URL. That means search engines and social preview bots see real text and internal links immediately — not a blank article that fills in after JavaScript loads. This is automatic for published snapshots. Draft edits in the editor still require Publish before they appear on the public URL. See SEO and social sharing for metadata and rendering details.
