Layout Overview
Collection Layouts
In short
Site layouts are named templates in the Layout tab. Edit Default or add new templates, configure slots, then save. Publish style & layout from Settings to push layout changes live.

Default template

Every site starts with a Default layout template. It defines baseline slots used unless a collection or page overrides. You cannot delete Default, but you can edit it freely.

Adding templates

Use Add layout (or duplicate an existing template) when you need different chrome for sections — e.g. marketing pages without sidebars vs docs with left nav. Duplicating copies slot settings so you can tweak without breaking Default.

Editing a template

  • Select the template in the Layout tab list.
  • Open each slot to configure visibility, variant, spacing, and background.
  • Set metadata header size and alignment defaults if the template shows page titles.
  • Save the layout draft — persists to site settings (draft until published).

Slot overrides at site level

The Layout tab may expose display overrides for the active preview page — metadata block visibility, site nav, background. These interact with page-level overrides; clearer to set collection defaults first, then page exceptions.

Publishing layout changes

Layout lives in site settings. Publish Style & layout from the Settings publish menu to make layout changes visible on the public site. Editing layout in the panel updates the draft preview immediately; visitors see changes only after publish.

AI layout tools

Quasar can read and update layout via tools. Review slot toggles in the Layout tab after AI changes — complex nav changes are worth verifying on mobile preview.

Tips

  • Keep one Default that works everywhere, specialize only where needed.
  • Name templates clearly — "Docs", "Landing", "Minimal".
  • Duplicate before risky experiments.
