Open collection Settings to pick a page layout template and sort mode. All pages in the folder inherit that layout unless a page overrides. The Layout tab also lists collections for quick assignment.
Why collection layouts matter
Docs and blogs often need different chrome per section — guides with side nav vs a landing section full-width. Assigning layout at the collection level avoids per-page setup for every file.
From collection settings
Pages → collection Settings.
Page layout — choose a template from the site registry or Inherit from site.
Page order — optional sort mode override (manual, name, recent).
Save and go back.
New pages in the folder inherit the chosen layout automatically.
From the Layout tab
The Layout tab lists collections alongside templates so you can see which folder uses which layout and jump to assignment controls without hunting the tree.Collection folders that share a layout template are grouped under their parent folder with the same elbow-connector indentation used for duplicate layout templates. A folder whose parent is hidden or missing stays at the top level.
Page-level exceptions
A single page can override in Page settings → Layout template or slot visibility. Use sparingly — too many exceptions make the site hard to maintain.Remove overrides to fall back to the collection template.
Sort mode per collection
Manual order in a docs collection drives sidebar link order. Recent suits blog archives. Setting sort at collection level overrides site defaults for pages in that folder only.
Preview
Open any page in the collection while editing layout — the preview iframe respects the effective template for that page, including collection assignment.
